This Guy Is Amazing At Digital Art

Hey

I was browsing DeviantART, some of the art people put up there is amazing. For example I was found this guy who does all his digital art in either Photoshop or Illustrator. The detail is amazing. He must have one powerful computer. Any way you can check out his work here. Below is an example of what he does. I wish I was that good.

Sorry For The Lack Of Updates

Hey

This is just a quick update explaining why there hasn't been many updates. Basically school sort of gets in the way at this time of year as exams start to pop up in January next year and I need to learn all of the stuff before time runs out. Hopefully by December when the holidays are back round again I should be able to post back to every single day. In the mean time you will have to stick with a post every couple of days and one at the week end. Thankfully i've got my new Mac to help me through which is a change from last year since I always had to use PC. Luckily for you Apple have just realeased a new Back-to-School promotion. Which I wish they released earlier since my iPods on the brink. You can check out the banner to the right(or click here) to see what they have to offer as it takes you straight to the Apple store.

Till next time. Goodbye.

Those New iPods Are So Cool

iCal IconHey

If you no anything about Apple it is that they release really cool stuff and they they have released more new stuff to there line up of iPod products. These like many of there predecessors are new an exciting. My personal favourite is the iPod Touch. Personally I love the touch screen. Ever since the iPhone has come out that has really appealed to me. When November 28th has come out i'll be first in line are ready to order from the Store. Pre-ordering doesn't seem such a bad idea.

Incorrect Save Message In Mac OS X

Hey

I was playing in Grapher in Mac OS X and it came up with this incorrect save message when quitting the application. All I was doing was graphing logs. A bit strange. You can click the image for the fullsize.

Clearly something is up with the spacing. It didn't happen again the second time around.
By the way if any one wants to know you can easily take images of anything on screen, such as message boxes, applications, menus etc by pressing the Command + Shift + 4 and then pressing space. A little camera will appear for the cursor where you can easily click any part of the screen to take a screen shot.

Creating a Web Sticker Photoshop Tutorial

Hey

This is just going to be a quick tutorial to show you how to create a sticker with text. For this tutorial you will need Photoshop and a couple of minutes spare. With any of the images you can click them to see the full sizes.

The first step is to set the size of you canvas. I'm going to pick a 500 x 500 pixel canvas which will give me plenty of room.

Creating a Web Sticker Photoshop Tutorial
You are going to need a colour for the circle that you are going to draw in a minute. I suggest you pick a pastel blue, although you can pick any colour you want.

Creating a Web Sticker Photoshop Tutorial
Draw your circle on you page. You are going to need to leave a little space in one of the corners for the over lap that you are going to create.

Creating a Web Sticker Photoshop Tutorial
You now need to use the polygon lasso tool. This is used to create a straight line cutting across on parts of the circle.

Creating a Web Sticker Photoshop Tutorial
As you can see in the image below use the lasso tool to cut across the circle. Finish the selection in the white space.

Creating a Web Sticker Photoshop Tutorial
One thing that you will need to make sure that you do is to change the background layer into a normal layer.

Creating a Web Sticker Photoshop Tutorial
Creating a Web Sticker Photoshop Tutorial
When I was doing this I did it in a wrong sort of order. What you need to do is remove the white on the page with the magic wand tool. The move the small cut away from the main circle.

Creating a Web Sticker Photoshop Tutorial
You now have to parts. The smaller part of the circle is going to be coloured in a grey shade of blue.

Creating a Web Sticker Photoshop Tutorial
For colouring the back of the sticker you need to pick a grey colour and then just move the pointer in to the blue area just a little bit. This is to simulate the blue going through the sticker.

Creating a Web Sticker Photoshop Tutorial
Colour the small cut off bit in the colour you want.

Creating a Web Sticker Photoshop Tutorial
You need to take you time in this part of the tutorial. You need to rotate, flip and what not so the two edges line up perfectly. The better you line it up the better the final sticker will be.

Creating a Web Sticker Photoshop Tutorial
Here you just need to add a small drop shadow underneath the cut off and add a small gradient overlay to the sticker front. For the sticker front use the gradient over lay style, pick the base colour and a slightly dark colour in the gradient. Rotate the overlay using the small circle thing to line up the shadow. Fiddle about with the other sliders to get the perfect effect.

Creating a Web Sticker Photoshop Tutorial
Just for effect no sticker would be finished without some text. I've use Trebuchet MS and added the bold effect to the number 3. You need to put the text layer underneath the folded over layer.

Creating a Web Sticker Photoshop Tutorial
Crop your canvas as needed.

Creating a Web Sticker Photoshop Tutorial
Add you background colour or save it out as a .png and you are done.

Creating a Web Sticker Photoshop Tutorial
For a sticker that you can use on any website or application the effect doesn't look half bad and it doesn't take that long.

Amazing Shadow Puppets

Creating a Grungy Distressed Banner - Photoshop Tutorial

Hey

Its been a while since I've done a Photoshop tutorial so I thought I would do this quick one just for a bit for fun. Anyway there are a lot of banner ads out there in the wild and you may want yours to stand out and be prominent on yours any ones site. The look and feel I have gone for is a distressed and grungy feel. You don't need anything in particular but a couple of option extras may help. Anyway, if you want to see the full size super duper detailed version just click any of the images to enlarge. You can get the source pack here.

Ok first off you need to create your canvas. I've picked for 160 x 600 pixels, this is a "standard" size for banner, you can go for any one you want.

Creating a Grungy Distressed Banner
What I have done here is added a grunge look and feel image for the background. It is availble in the source pack located here. Basically what this image is a grunge effect applied with brushes with some added text effects. If you want to have some grunge effect brushes you can get some of the best here or here. They are done by Graphic Xtras and are some of the best ones around. They are priced at $10 and you cannot go wrong. There is about 200 included in each pack. If you want to see the brushes click the "product page" at the bottom.

Creating a Grungy Distressed Banner
This is where the distressed looks comes into play. Also included in the pack are some vector images that my mate found for me. I think they are from Arsenal, after a bit of research. The plan is to remove some of the colour so they appear faint and eerie. If you get the source pack they are included in there. To input the image into the page go File > Place or you can copy and paste if you have the file open.

Creating a Grungy Distressed Banner
To remove the black if you press the Screen button it removes the darkest part of the image. Play around with the other options, get an effect you want and like.

Creating a Grungy Distressed BannerIf you notice the middle 2nd image (my favourite) has had all the black removed. I've placed the images on haphazardly, but any effect can work for you.

Creating a Grungy Distressed Banner
One tip, if you want them even fainter so they are just viewable change the opacity, this again makes the image lighter.

Creating a Grungy Distressed Banner
As you can see when diverting your eyes away from the text and towards the image below the added images blend in. Varying the different opacities can make all the difference.

Creating a Grungy Distressed Banner
Of course no banner would be correct if there wasn't some text to guide your visitors on there way. I've chosen a stencil font Google free fonts and pick ones you like. I personally think the stencil fonts matched.

Creating a Grungy Distressed Banner
Since the text is white it does sort of blend in and get a bit lost. I've used the drop shadow to add a shadow to just make the text stand out a little bit more.

Creating a Grungy Distressed Banner
Apart from adding more text and/or images the banner is done. Personally it looks different and think it adds a different effect. Of course this style only matches a certain criteria. There is no need advertising Barbie using this style.

Creating a Grungy Distressed Banner
Hopefully this has helped give you some ideas. You can download the source files here and if you ever get short of brushes check out this. 10,000 for $30. I think if you bought this Photoshop may take a while to load. But with 10,000 brushes you would never need to make your own. For $30 I think its a steal. Thats 0.003 dollars a brush.

Anyway happy Photoshopping.
